Practice:
Under the discussion tab, choose your class period, read the first post (by me) and practice using participial phrases and your vocab words.
Read:
Look at the following ads closely. Read the words, the people, the objects.
Think:
Choose one of the ads.
Write a short description of the ad.
Write down 3 tone words from the TONE WORDS list to describe the ad.
Think about the PURPOSE of the ad. Why did the writer create it? What is it advertising? What/how/why is it trying to persuade readers to do?
Discuss:
Find a partner that chose the same ad as you. Discuss the tone. Did you both have the same tone words? If so, why did these words describe the image so well? Why couldn't you find others that worked better?
Discuss the purpose. Why do you think the author created this ad? What is he trying to persuade us to do/think?
Write:
For homework, write 2 PEE paragraphs about the advertisement. One paragraph should be about the tone. The other should be abotu the purpose. Remember to include Evidence (this does not have to be text from the ad- it can also be gestures, facial expressions, lighting, etc.) and to explain how the evidence supports your point. We will use these paragraphs next class period by turning them into an essay.
Also, include at least 1 participial phrase in each paragraph!
